Ocean Cruising Adventures Series – Slow Boat to Canada

Nick Ward shares experiences from his Atlantic crossing and life afloat with his young family as they explore the Caribbean and Eastern Seaboard while home schooling their two children – an unforgettable cruising and parenting journey.

About The Speaker

Nick Ward has been sailing since he was a teenager, when he and his Dad bought a well used 26 foot aluminum race boat, rebuilt her and lost a lot of races. Doing better with a 30 foot half-tonner, and lots of racing and cruising around the British Isles, Nick blended sailing with ‘real life’ but held onto a dream of ocean cruising. Gesa Ward grew up in Montreal, thoroughly disliked a brief dinghy sailing experience at summer camp, and met Nick when they were both living and working in Cambridge, England. Married in 2001 and with two young kids, Issie and Max,  Gesa’s dream of raising the family in BC led the family on a slow emigration to Canada in 2007 by way of the Caribbean and Eastern USA. Via planes, trains, a cargo ship and a 48 foot sailing boat, the family now live in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island and explore this sailor’s paradise between the occasional need for work and schooling.
