Attendance at a prior BCA Basic Diesel course, or a good basic knowledge of diesel engines is required. This course is intended for those who own and maintain their own sailboat, or those who want to gain a better understanding of diesel engines, including proper operation and maintenance.
- Review of fuel, cooling and lubrication systems
- Electrical system: batteries, alternators, AC chargers and inverters
- Battery servicing
- Various charging systems
- Drives: straight drive, v-drive, sail drives
- Shaft seals
Instructor
David West is a highly experienced and knowledgeable diesel mechanic and instructor, who comes highly recommended by a number of women who have attended his courses. He is also a sailing instructor.
