If you are a boater who thinks of yourself as an ‘electrical novice’ then this course is for you!This course has been designed for boaters with scant experience at electrical diagnostics and repairs; and with little understanding of electrical concepts and methods.
Course Outline
Morning 9-12
- Simple electrical theory and basic electrical calculations (voltages, currents, resistance, power, Ohm’s Law)
- Electrical measurements, using your multimeter effectively(you must bring your own multimeter, or purchase one)
- Wiring, sizing, terminal selection, crimping methods, heat shrinking (crimping tools, terminals and wire available for training)
Afternoon 1-4
- Understanding your alternator and its regulator (alternator circuit diagram, diagnostic measurements)
- Alternator teardown and reassembly (insights from what’s inside the black box)
Course Presenter
Your presenter will be Guy Gauvin. Guy has worked as an electrical engineer (specifically in sawmill automation) and he has a lifelong interest in electronics and electrical gizmos of all sorts. Guy had owned a sailboat for most of his adult life and prides himself in doing all his own repairs, whether they be of a mechanical or an electrical nature. Guy is presently retired and lives in Nanoose Bay.
