MIST (Mid Island Sail Training) is intended to help BCA members become more competent, self-sufficient sailors focusing on more traditional skills rather than relying on the latest technology to save the day. Participants are encouraged to arrive Friday afternoon, and participate in both “at the dock/on your boat” and “on the water”‘ exercises over the course of the weekend.
The training content is driven by the participants, kick-started with a tentative agenda. The intent is to create a ‘hands on’ event that is relevant to the participants, valuable and thought-provoking, as well as a fun and social event.
Proposed Topics for 2024
- Pre-trip decisions and planning
- Prepare, prepare, prepare (i.e. courses needed?)
- Back-up processes (i.e. if the electronics fail)
- Workarounds (when something breaks)
- Spares (and more spares!) – know your boat
- Other topics as determined by the group
Suggested Moorage
Saysutshun (Newcastle Island) dock or mooring buoys, or anchoring in Mark Bay. Moorage is first-come, first-served on the docks or moorage balls/anchorage. We cannot reserve spaces in advance, so please plan your arrival accordingly.
Course and Registration Information
MIST is limited to 25 people who must be BCA members in good standing. Advance registration of all participants, including any crew members, is required. If you have any questions about the weekend, please contact MIST Co-ordinator David.
