Get ready to learn the tricks of the trade in marine fibreglass repair. This course will ensure you know the basics to both assess the work requirements and do minor repairs. You will learn hand layup of minor non-structural repairs from a trained and certified professional. It will also provide insights into structural repair, to guide your decision making and oversight.
Erik will start with an assessment of the repairs required to determine if the problem is minor or structural. He will then lead you through preparation including theory, practical techniques and materials required. You will be given direction for hand layup with a focus on health and safety, handling and disposing, with necessary requirements to ensure a successful repair.
About the Instructor
Erik Steinkey, founder and owner of Nordmanner Marine Services , has over 10 years’ experience with all facets of fibreglass construction and repair in the Marine Industry. He has operated his own business for seven years. Erik was introduced to sailing in his early twenties while stationed in Germany with the Canadian military. He has since become an avid sailor and has sailed competitively with many one-design sailing teams. He has taken Naval Architecture courses with the Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology , apprenticed with several shipwrights, and has current certificates from Advanced Composite Training , a division of Renaissance Aeronautics Associates Inc. Erik continuously upgrades his knowledge and is committed to building an industry, as such he continuously networks with other professionals in the field. Boats are Erik’s passion.
