VI South Hybrid Club Night: To Sail the Northwest Passage

Royal Victoria Yacht Club Main Lounge or via Zoom

16 Apr 2024 1900h - 2130h

Members $5 / Non-Members $10

Peter McMartin

In 2022, BCA members Jamie Cox and Lorrainne Dixon, and Ged McLean were awarded the Royal Victoria Yacht Club Conconi Plaque for Exceptional World Cruising Achievement as the first RVYC boat to transit the Northwest Passage.

Ged, the enthusiastic crew member, will share stories and photos of massive salmon fishing fleets and Kodiak Grizzlies in Alaska, difficult passages through the Bering and Chukchi Seas, the challenge of pack ice and icebergs on either side of the continent and the wonderful people along the way, a 7,000nm journey that can only be described as a trip of a lifetime.

Jamie and Ged met while racing in 2013 and they soon discovered a shared, long-time interest in sailing the Northwest Passage. When Jamie bought Jaca, a Waterline 45, with the aim of making the trip, Ged was only too keen to lend a hand and support the effort.

Please note: Lorrainne Dixon and Jamie Cox purchased Jaca together, in 2016. They sailed her to Victoria from Washington State in the spring of that year.
While Jamie is a trusted Captain (ask any crew member) Lorrainne is a superb provisioner, as crew members will attest, and does necessary crew watches etc. with Jamie.
I do appreciate this opportunity to attend this presentation , virtually, as a non-member; thank you!

Thank you Sheridan, for your comment – I am also looking forward to Ged’s talk about his crewing experience on Jaca with Jamie and Lorraine. I’m sure it’ll be interesting and entertaining. I’m hoping to join in person next Tuesday night.
      Cheers!
