Last September, Peter McMartin and Dani Tate-Stratton, while at different times and with different companions, were both navigating down the Canal de Midi in the south of France. Though they saw and did many of the same things, their overall impressions of canal life were unique and the things they chose to see and do quite different. Between the two boats, they travelled over 240 kilometres through 69 locks from Castelnaudary to just beyond Aigue-Mortes on the Camargue.
Join them as they take us down the Midi, visiting ancient cities like Carcassonne, Capestang, and Béziers, pulling over to the side of the canal for impromptu wine tastings, travelling on a canal within the sea, searching out flamingoes, and experiencing a gentler pace of life. They’ll also introduce you to the ups and downs of all those locks and touch on some of the region’s fascinating–and at turns gruesome–history.
As with the final club nights this past spring, this club night will be a virtual one conducted via Zoom. VI Chapter members (both Victoria and Mid-Island) will receive a link to join the Zoom meeting via email, and any members of other chapters are welcome to email Dani or Peter to request a link to join.
