Vancouver Island Fleet Report: October

Connie and Al, VI Fleet Coordinators

Cookie Cutter / Wyndspree
Peterson 36 Cutter / Huntingford 53 Ketch
November 3rd, 2015

Between 25 and 30 members attended each of the fleet meetings held in October.  On October 14th we had presentations by cruising BCA members Neil & Peggy Beswick on harbour hopping to San Francisco and Gord Wedman on the offshore route to San Diego.  On October 28th a panel of experienced BCA cruisers (Daragh Nagle & Cathryn O’Neill,  Jordan Mills,  Hugh Waller & Graciela Orlando-Waller) discussed how they prepared their boats and themselves for offshore cruising, and what they have learned from their experiences.

The next fleet meeting on November 4th will have a group discussion on clearing into foreign ports, and on November 25th Tony Gooch will talk to the fleet about preparing for sailing in heavy weather.  At this time we have 35 members and 21 boats registered for Fleet, of which 10  plan to head offshore next summer.

The majority of Fleet members are also participating in the weather group.
