All Fleet Chapters Welcome at Vancouver October Meeting

Each chapter has a Fleet group consisting of those members preparing to venture farther afield in the coming year or soon thereafter.  Members may include those planning to head offshore, sail around Vancouver Island or travel up the coast, exploring and venturing into new territories. This previous article here [1] provides more information about Fleet and how to join.

While each chapter has a Fleet group and generally each determines their own programing, for the month of October, all three Fleet groups are invited to attend the following Vancouver chapter Fleet meeting, either in-person or via Zoom.

Managing Medical Maladies: Practical Care for Common Injuries and Illnesses When Land is Over the Horizon

Facilitators: Dugg & Kristen Steary, Agora

Date and Time: October 29, 1930h.

Location: Scottish Cultural Centre

Join critical care paramedics—and seasoned sailors Dugg and Kristen Steary for a practical, no-nonsense session on staying healthy at sea. Drawing on passages through the Florida Keys, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal before bringing their catamaran Agora to Vancouver, they’ll demystify the most common offshore injuries and illnesses, share how to recognize red flags early, and outline simple, evidence-based actions you can take with limited gear. You’ll leave with clear guidance on building and maintaining a sensible medical kit, tips for triage and communication when you’re days from shore, and a shortlist of trusted training, telemedicine, and reference resources tailored for cruisers.

To attend via Zoom, whichever Chapter you belong to, contact the Vancouver Fleet Coordinator [2].
