The first meeting of VI Fleet 2016/17 took place on September 28 at Royal Victoria Yacht Club. More than 20 people attended and introduced themselves and their cruising plans. This was followed by a couple of presentations by returning Fleet members (Glen & Mary Wilson on Moonshadow VI; Brian Short & Glenda Wray on Carpe Vente) about where they went and what they learned from their shake-down cruises this past summer.
The next meeting on October 12 featured a panel of experienced BCA cruisers:
- Barbara Erickson & Lionel Dobson from Sea Whisper
- Trish & Jim Bowen from Falcon VII
- Jean-Guy Nadeau from Gosling
They shared information about what they’ve learned from their years of cruising.
At the following meeting on October 26, David Robb gave a talk about “Personal Safety & Comfort at Sea” illustrated with many examples from cruising offshore on his boat Gavia Artica.
As of the end of October, VI Fleet has 37 members representing 19 boats, and more than half of these intend to head offshore in the summer of 2017.
