We are happy to announce that the VI Fleet of 2025/26 is finally getting organized for the year. Fleet membership is very beneficial if you are planning to go offshore in the next couple of years or if you are curious about how you might take that big step. The earlier you get started on the prep, the less busy you’ll be in the final countdown to casting off.
Objectives of Fleet
One of the objectives of the Fleet is to increase the participants’ basic knowledge of whatever is necessary to prepare them for safe and comfortable voyages. But, perhaps the most important objective of the Fleet is to get to know other members who are going offshore or who already are offshore – people you will meet in foreign ports, people who will happily help each other out in times of difficulty, people who you will become long-time friends with.
How is Fleet Structured on Vancouver Island?
This year the VI Fleet will focus organizing in-person social get-togethers once a month on a Sunday. We plan to book some boat visits in the spring. We are also encouraging VI Fleet members to register for and attend the Vancouver Fleet online Zoom sessions on the last Tuesday of the month.
For those who are interested, the first VI Fleet social meeting will be in Victoria on Sunday, December 14, 1300-1600h. This will be an opportunity to talk about what your offshore preparation priorities are so we can plan our Fleet activities for the season, followed by coffee/tea and Christmas goodies. Opportunities for social times like this are are essential and help make the Fleet special. They provide an opportunity to get together with like-minded people sharing ideas, learning together and getting to know one another.
There is no charge to attend VI Fleet this year.
Please RSVP to VI Fleet Coordinators Campbell Good and Cathy Norrie if you would like to attend and we’ll forward the street address for our first meeting. You can also contact Campbell and Cathy if you have any questions about the Fleet or how you can get involved.
