The January meeting of the Vancouver Fleet was held on January 30 at the Scottish Cultural Centre.
The program for the evening was focused on Reducing Anxiety and Effective Communication presented by Ken and Carol Gillstrom. Some of the ways of reducing anxiety that they shared with the group included:
- improving docking skills
- using tethers and life jackets
- awareness of possible problems
- checklists to deal with problems
Communication is improved when the skipper is prepared to listen and the crew responds to commands.
Show and Tell highlighted the Iridium Offshore Communication device and some participants vouched for its effectiveness.
The program for February 27 will be Heavy Weather Sailing with Christof Marti.
