Elaine Humphrey

The story so far:

Duncan Copeland, Larissa Clark, Eden and Sky-Elizabeth are preparing to go into the wide blue yonder with the intention of exploring the world and undertaking some Citizen Science Projects.

Duncan and Larissa talked about their plans at the May Rendezvous and connected with Elaine Humphrey who has a tabletop scanning electron microscope (SEM) that Hitachi gave her to go into schools for STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs.

When COVID struck Elaine couldn’t go into schools but UVic has a site license for Zoom with 300 connections and remote control. Now she is able to connect to schools even in remote areas. Duncan and his family intend to go into remote areas of the world, and they have Starlink. So, it is possible to connect with the SEM from anywhere.

A few of the organisms that Rendezvous participants collected from the dock at Telegraph Harbour Marina are going to be the subject when we test out the system from FreeRanger. We are inviting BCA members and BCA friends, especially those who were at the Rendezvous, to connect as well.

If you are not a BCA member but would like to attend this session, please email Leslie or Jennifer for the Zoom link.
