Kirk Patterson, sailing S/V Silk Purse, will present the third and final instalment of his report on his quest to be the first non-Japanese sailor to circumnavigate Japan. In the first half of the talk, he will talk about the final leg, from the Seto Inland Sea up the Pacific coast to Hakodate.
Highlights, and lowlights, will include dealing with the very heavy shipping traffic in Tokyo/Yokohama, passing by the earthquake/tsunami-devastated nuclear reactor and fishing ports, coping with various mechanical and personal challenges, and, as in previous talks, enjoying wonderful Japanese hospitality.
In the second half of the talk, he will summarize the many reasons why he believes Japan is one of the world’s great, albeit unknown, cruising grounds and provide some “how to” advice and tips.
