Spend two evenings online with instructor-extraordinaire, Kevin Monahan, learning just how much you don’t know about tides and currents! Just when you thought you might have it all figured out, along comes Kevin to show you what it’s really all about. As it turns out, there’s a lot more to it than just reading a tide table.
- The most reliable sources of information, and why they’re the best
- What forces raise the tides
- Predict tides and currents even when none are given
- How and why tidal currents form and how they affect the boater
- How wind, waves, and currents interact
- Local tide and current effects: Juan de Fuca, Georgia Strait, Johnstone Strait, Queen Charlotte Strait, Central Coast, and North Coast
About the Instructor
Kevin Monahan is an extremely experienced professional mariner with more than 20 years as a Coast Guard captain on the BC coast. He knows these water as well as anyone can. He’s an exceptional instructor as well. BCA has been fortunate to have him teach Basic- and Advanced Radar, as well as Weather Strategies for the Inside Passage. Furthermore, he’s written the book on tides and currents–literally–he is the author of Ports and Passes as well as The Radar Book.
Join Kevin and the online crew for two nights. Each night there will be two hours of presentation, followed by ½ hour of questions. The course will be offered “COVID-style”: online. We’ll use the Zoom program and cap the number of participants at 25 to keep Q&A manageable. There is no need to subscribe to Zoom, just register for Tides and Currents and we’ll send a link to you a couple of days before the course.
For a detailed course outline and to register, go to the BCA website here.
We expect this course will fill up fast because it’s incredible value for the price. Only $40 for members (plus $25 for one spouse/partner if registered at the same time), and $50 for non-members ($35 for one spouse/partner if registered at the same time).
Open to all BCA members and non-members.
