Online Zoom Meeting
27 Oct 2020 to 29 Oct 2020 1900 - 2130h
Members $50 / Non-Members $65
Spend two evenings online with instructor-extraordinaire, Kevin Monahan, learning about the unique weather patterns of the west coast and how to make decisions based on weather forecasts. BC coastal weather patterns are confusing if you don’t understand the basic forces that shape the local weather in the Juan de Fuca Strait, Georgia Strait, Johnstone Strait and the North Coast. Once you understand the dynamics of the most common weather patterns that occur in the region, you can develop strategies that take advantage of them, thus having a more comfortable and less stressful cruise.
About the Instructor
Kevin Monahan is an extremely experienced professional mariner with more than 20 years as a Coast Guard captain on the BC coast. He knows these water as well as anyone can and is exceptional instructor as well. BCA has been fortunate to have him teach Basic and Advanced Radar, as well as Tides and Currents. He is author of: Local Knowledge: A Skipper’s Reference (Tacoma to Ketchikan) and The Radar Book: Effective Navigation and Collision Avoidance
Join Kevin and the online crew for two nights. Each presentation will be two hours, followed by ½ hour of questions. The course will be offered “COVID-style”: online. We’ll use the Zoom program and cap the number of participants at 25 to keep Q&A manageable. There is no need to subscribe to Zoom, just register for Weather Strategies for the Inside Passage and we’ll send a link to you a couple of days before the course.
