The Vancouver Fleet met online on February 25 with 10 attendees.
Show and Tell:
- Glen Wilson shared his insights on an anchor system
- David Farrow noted that there was a great video on anchoring.
Presentation:
The Fleet had a great ‘Safety at Sea’ presentation given by long-time sailor Janet McKeown MD, covering remedies and solutions to various unexpected issues including seasickness. Some points:
- Check out Healthlink.bc for any information about medications.
- CDC is a good resource for any updates on diseases that may be active in areas sailors anticipate visiting and to ensure appropriate inoculations.
- Important, and valuable, to take First Aid and CPR training, which would require updating every 2-3 yrs.
- Great books to have available:
- The International Ship Medical Guide
- Offshore Doctor
The next Fleet meeting on March 25 will be a presentation on the differences and pros and cons of OpenCPN and Navionics.
