Socializing and Walks

More than a dozen BCA boats, skippers and crew gathered in Montague Harbour on October 4, 2024 for the Pre-Thanksgiving Rendezvous, hosted by the Calgary Chapter.

On Friday evening, sailors enjoyed casual get-togethers, swapping stories of summer adventures. Saturday morning, the group met for a brisk walk around the park. Once again, we were blessed with gorgeous B.C. fall weather.

Foil Dinner Cook-off

Saturday evening was the main event: the world-famous BCA Foil Dinner Cook-off. As always, the cook-off was a tremendous success. Boaters were challenged with preparing an appetizer, main course and dessert using only foil pack recipes. A roaring open fire and two grills were fired up as boaters prepared their meals to compete for the title of “Top Chef Galiano” and three bottles of B.C.’s finest wine. The two judges, Allen Bell (Belle Isle) and Don Buie (Bella Maria) had a nearly impossible job as the competition was fierce. Bribes were accepted when offered and always considered appropriate. The weather cooperated and everyone had a great time.

Cook-off Winners

Best Appetizer: Babylon III – Simon and Jennifer Hatfield
Charcuterie board with imported cheese (4 types), Prosciutto, chutney, and crackers. What an opening after coming off of the water.

Best Main: Lolani – Ian Mackin and June Pitcher
Tomatillo baby back ribs. Locally grown tomatillos from the Okanagan; the aroma as you approached the table was what gave it away.

Best Dessert: Indigo Wave – Glen Wilson and Cheryl Crowther Wilson
Baked apples stuffed with cinnamon, oatmeal, and raisins. Worth waiting for as the perfect closing number.

If it Floats Anything Goes Regatta

On Sunday we met at the dock for the “If it Floats Anything Goes Regatta”. The gun was fired and a collection of craft raced around the point to the north beach. After spinning a few more sailors’ yarns, some boats began to depart while others made plans for another evening get-together.

It was a great finish to a summer of sailing on B.C.’s spectacular west coast!
