In a recent survey, BCA members indicated that they are concerned about the ways climate change is impacting the ocean environment, want to learn more and take positive action.

As part of the Environmentally and Socially Responsible Cruising (ESRC) strategy the working group was tasked with “creating a template to encourage self-reporting of boats using best practices…”

The Best Practices Checklist is now available on the BCA website as an excel spreadsheet so it can be easily completed and/or modified to suit your boat.  To download this helpful tool, click here, or you can find it in the Responsible Cruising section of the BCA website along with other tools and resources.

The checklist will help you to evaluate your current boating activities and monitor progress over time.  As new ideas and better information become available, the checklist will be revised and we welcome your suggestions. Please send them to enviro@bluewatercruising.org.

More information will be forthcoming with follow-up articles and presentations on various aspects of the checklist. The ESRC group is also developing a detailed calculator for the carbon footprint of cruising boats.
