Currents has two volunteer positions that need filling. While “Geek” and “Picky Person” are not the official job titles, if either of those descriptors resonate with you, please read on.
Data Analyst (aka Geek)
Do you:
- enjoy statistics and playing with numbers?
- love massaging data to uncover relationships?
- have some familiarity with Google Site Kit, or confidence you can figure it out?
Are you:
- excited to find answers to questions like what influences our website traffic, or how many people are reading which articles?
- able to work independently and with little training?
This newly-created position will be very flexible. To start, I envision our Data Analyst would examine and report on our site traffic, probably monthly, and also be willing and able to analyse data in response to specific questions from the Currents team. As the first person to take on this role, the volunteer will probably help to define the job.
Copy Editor (aka Picky Person)
I would like to express my thanks to our long-standing copy editor, Sally Holland, for all of her contributions to Currents. However, she has decided that it is time to retire after many years of service and so we are now looking for another person to take on this role.
Do you:
- know the difference between their, there, and they’re?
- enjoy correcting people’s grammar?
- understand when to use a colon and a semi-colon?
- enjoy reading Currents?
- like to see the news before others do?
Are you:
- very attentive to details?
- usually able to respond to requests for editing within a few days?
- comfortable with word processing?
- familiar with WordPress (training can be provided, if not)?
The copy editor is responsible for reviewing articles and other Currents items such as news and event announcements to ensure they are free of spelling and grammatical errors and have consistent formatting that aligns with Currents‘ publishing guidelines.
If you are interested in taking on either of these roles, please email me.
