The Vancouver Island Chapter is pleased to invite all BCA members to their upcoming Club Night on November 17, 2020.
In late May of 2007, Sue and David Williams untied their Alberg 37 yawl, Inia, and left Hamilton Harbour at the westernmost end of Lake Ontario, on the first leg of their voyage down the St. Lawrence River to the Atlantic Ocean – Portugal bound.
Sue’s book entitled Ready to Come About tells of their adventurous passages across the Atlantic to the Azores, on to Lagos and back to North America again via Madeira, the Cape Verde Islands, the British and American Virgin Islands, and Florida. They motored up the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) and the New York State Canal System and arrived back at their home port just over a year after departure. Sue is very articulate and frank about their setbacks and experiences getting ready to leave their three boys and preparing themselves and their boat for the trip. She also tells of their internal voyages as they changed and grew through the challenges, joys and hardships of their first offshore cruise. Perhaps they had more of the latter than was their fair share, but they seemed to grow stronger and wiser as they went.
Sue will read from her book and, with David, will present a slide show of their life-altering journey. As usual, a Q&A will follow. We have two copies of Sue’s book and will make them available to the VI Fleet Library so our members who are preparing to go offshore can benefit from Sue and David’s candor and experience.
This club night is open to all BCA members, and an email with Zoom link will be sent to all members. We’re looking forward to welcoming members from other chapters to this November Club Night! The Zoom room opens at 7pm PST, with meeting at 7:30 and presentation immediately to follow.
