This 4-hour webinar (2x two hours Monday and Tuesday), is for anyone wanting to learn more about their entire marine diesel system – from the fuel deck fill to the propeller. The course will guide you through an understanding of how things work as well as maintenance best practices. Sign-on details will be sent the day prior.

Dennison Berwick is a marine mechanic (ABYC certified) and the creator and publisher of the Marine Diesel Basics project – visual guides to marine diesel systems. His book on maintenance, winterizing and recommissioning has been acclaimed by Peter Nielsen in Sail Magazine as, “the best guide on the subject I’ve seen. This book has a place on every diesel-equipped boat”. The book is available in English, French, Portuguese and Chinese. He has also published a series of value-added Maintenance Logbooks for Single and for Twin Engine installations in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese and Portuguese. He is currently working to complete book 2 in the Marine Diesel Basics series – How Things Work, Installation Guidelines. The 500-page book is a comprehensive review of the entire diesel system with over 2000 drawings. The book should be published later this year.

Dennison is also a bluewater sailor with experience in the Great Lakes, North Atlantic, English Channel, Southeast Asia, East and South Africa. In 2022 he completed his first ocean passage, and first solo ocean passage, crossing the Indian Ocean from Thailand to Tanzania, east Africa, aboard his 36-foot steel sloop Oceans Five. Earlier this year he set out to sail solo from Namibia to Brazil; however, in a “meditative state” while hand-steering for 12 days, he decided to focus on his books and stopped the passage when he reached St. Helena. He has made available for free download 2500+ engine manuals and other publications from his website.
