With MBTiles, you can integrate satellite imagery into mapping programs like OpenCPN, enhancing navigation in under-charted regions.
Discover the power of MBTile mapping software, a versatile tool for creating detailed geographic maps. MBTiles allows you to store and manage large collections of geo-spatial data in a single file, making it ideal for navigation and mapping applications.
What you need:
PC (PC only, this does not work on a MAC), a power bar and/or extension cord.
We will install the required software to make your own MBTile satellite charts and create a few satellite charts in class. Participants will leave with a functioning MBTile creation installation on their PC and the basic knowledge required for its ongoing use to create sat charts.
Our presenter, Rob Murray has been cruising Avant (a Beneteau First 435) for 11 years down the Pacific coast from BC to the Caribbean side of Panama, and has taught seminars in the USA, Mexico, El Salvador and Panama. Hundreds of graduates are successfully using the software he helped them get started with to navigate.
Amazing course. Any chance this could be offered online. I’ll be cruising near Panama at that time.
Sorry to say, this one won’t be recorded- however if you have “TikTok installed here’s a good summary of why we need several sources of mapping and some links to rugged hardware.

Let me know when you’re in Panama as Rob keeps his boat there and runs these courses there.
