After several years of cruising around the Gulf Islands on their Ranger 29, BCA members Dani and Toryn realized two things:
- They love being on the water, and
- They don’t particularly love sailing
As a result, they went looking for other ways to live on the water and came across the inland waterways of Europe. While cruising in Europe remains a future plan, they immediately set about buying and building their dream canal boat. Luja is a former BC Ferries lifeboat and the fruits of over four years of labour.
Join us as Dani and Toryn share the research, design, and build process from bare hull to fully-electric live-a-board. They’ll cover the main aspects of their conversion process, what went well (and what very much didn’t), why they converted to electric propulsion, and initial reflections about life on Luja (currently about 90% complete).
Bring your DIY questions and enthusiasm to our Vancouver Chapter November club night and join us on a different sort of boating journey – to and from the boat yard and back again (and again and…)!
