Alert First Aid

This fun and interactive 20 hour course trains people how to react and improvise when 911 is more than 15 minutes away; and when dealing with time-priority, life threatening emergencies.  It is divided into classroom training and theory (Friday evening), outdoors practice  (Saturday) and onboard practice (Sunday).  Primary topics to be covered include:

  • initial assessment
  • disease prevention
  • secondary survey
  • airway obstruction
  • evacuation and transportation
  • extended care
  • adult, child, infant CPR (Level C); and
  • use of the Automated External Defibrillator

Recognition and first-aid treatment for head and spine injuries, shock, breathing and circulation emergencies, respiratory and cardiac arrest, wounds, bone, muscle and joint injuries, environmental emergencies, poison, cold and heat related emergencies, and medical emergencies will also be addressed.

Participants spend the majority of the course doing hands-on first aid, and participating in first aid scenarios.  By practicing with scenarios, students gain confidence, learn to improvise, and react in emergency situations.

Price includes a Canadian Red Cross field guide and certificate, valid for 3 years.
